Max Kruse – 1921 – 2015

T-Rex Gerold wünscht gute Reise, alles Gute für Urmel!

Und auf Wödersöhen!

T-Rex Gerold wishes Max a safe journey and all the best to Urmel!

Renowned children’s book author Max Kruse passed away on 7 September 2015 at the age of 93.

He leaves us with many of his creations, most famously ‘Urmel’, last of the dinosaurs, with a hippo’s snout and tiny, tiny wings, whose egg – encased in a chunk of prehostoric ice – is being washed up upon the shore of the tropical island ‘Titiwu’, where he hatches, finds friends and has numerous adventures.

In the English version the protagonist seems to be called ‘Impy’.

The author admitted in an interview, the idea for ‘Urmel’ came to him when one day he defrosted a trout. There you go: Inspiration may strike any time and in any context.

The German TV-series dramatization using string puppets in a production of the ‘Augsburger Puppenkiste’ aired in the late 1960s and 1970s and made for cult viewing amongst children then, and still brings back fond memories.

es kann serrr schön sein, gemeinsam trrraurrige Löderr tso singönnn!
